Professional Practice with Sexuality & Intimacy - Utilising Person Centred Care
6 CPD Hours
Sexuality in the Elderly Course Introductory Video Dr Drew Dwyer - Consultant Gerontologist
Assessment, Care Planning and Management
Understand & clinically assess the sexual needs of older people for appropriate care planning and behaviour management.
The elderly in care have legitimate intimate needs as human beings, which requires support and clinical application through a best practice model of assessment, care planning and management. Unfortunately, this is often not the case, with their sexual needs either being ignored or the underlying issue not being clinically handled correctly.
The learning outcomes in this seminar provide an understanding of the sexual needs of clients, intimacy and relationships, love and belongingness. The enhanced knowledge includes LGBTI client needs, and designing and delivering services that are truly person-centred, supported by accurate clinical assessment and appropriate care plans providing the basis for managing this taboo area of care.
Topics covered include:
Ageing and Sexuality
Clinical assessment of sexual needs
Managing challenging sexual behaviours
Identifying sexual behaviours
Sexual practices of the elderly
Care planning and sexual needs
Application to ACFI
This course is relevant to all workers at all levels in Aged Care.
